Dear Member:
Your Executive Committee, Board of Directors and nearly all committees
and task forces met in Chicago last month to start work on the
1998-99 work plan. With some 200 members involved in the process,
there is a lot going on.
Your Board received and approved audited financial statements
for the year that ended May 31. We concluded the year with $10.9
million in revenues, and a contribution to member equity of $533,000---one
of our best years ever. The Board also approved the 1998-99 budget,
which calls for revenues of $11.4 million.
Based in part on the financial health of the association, the
Board approved a recommendation of the Headquarters Building Task
Force to proceed to buy a parcel of land in the northwest suburban
Chicago area, with the intent of building a permanent headquarters
facility by the time our current lease expires in 2005. We will
keep your advised as that project evolves.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has officially
removed provisions relating to -containing roof cements,
coatings and mastics in its construction and shipyard standards,
to conform with an appeals court decision we reported last year.
The new rule, published on July 24, says that work practices,
training and hazard communication for asphalt roof cements, coatings
and mastics are not required.
